Press release from Troms Police District
Based on a legal request from Latvian authorities, as well as a ruling from Nord-Troms and Senja District Court i Norway, Troms Police District has brought in the Norwegian-registered and Norwegian-owned ship Silver Dania. The ship sails between St. Petersburg and Murmansk. The crew on board is Russian.
The ship was brought in by the coast guard vessel KV Bison in an operation led by the police around 21:00 Thursday night. At that time, the ship was within the Norwegian economic zone off the coast of Troms county.
The ship was brought into the port of Tromsø today at 06:40.
There is suspicion that the ship has been involved in serious damage to a fibre cable in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden. The police are conducting an operation on the ship to search, conduct interviews, and secure evidence.
Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) has been routinely informed about the case.
