Bus accident in Hadsel investigated with large resources from the police
In recent days, the police have been investigating the tragic bus accident on the E10 in Hadsel municipality on Boxing Day with great intensity. All available resources have been put into action, with local police receiving assistance from other units in their own district, neighboring districts and national assistance resources. The case has had high priority throughout the Christmas period and will continue to have this in the coming time.
Following the accident, the police have focused on looking after those involved. The three deceased have still not been formally identified, but the police have a clear idea of who they are and what their nationality is. They are foreign nationals and the respective embassies have been informed of who the police believe this is. An autopsy will be carried out in the near future, with the Nordland Police District receiving assistance from Kripos. The survivors have been appointed a next of kin contact from the police and a legal aid lawyer has also been appointed to look after the deceased and their survivors.
The case has been investigated extensively, with a number of tactical and technical investigative steps being carried out. This includes a significant number of witness interviews with both passengers in the bus and other road users who were in the area. In addition, electronic traces have been secured, and forensic examinations of both the bus and the scene in general have been carried out. In addition, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's accident group and the Accident Investigation Board Norway have conducted their investigations.
The police have collected a lot of information, but it is still too early to say anything about the cause of the accident. The case is being investigated as a violation of Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act, where the driver has the status of a suspect and has had his driver's license temporarily seized. Further investigation will seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding the loss of three lives, where the conclusion will be based on the internal and external technical reports, as well as the other investigation material. This is laborious and time-consuming work, which means that it will take a long time before there are any final answers in the case.
